 sion of sins\, so Shrove Tuesday was the day when people confessed their s
 ins before the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday. In today’s church cal
 endar\, the period before Easter marks the time Jesus spent fasting in the
  desert before his crucifixion on Good Friday. Lent is a time of prayer an
 d fasting\, and traditionally certain foods including meat\, eggs\, fat an
 d milk were forbidden. To avoid temptation\, these foods were eaten up bef
 ore Lent began\, a tradition continued today as Pancake Day. \nIngredients
 \n100g plain flour\n2 large eggs\n300ml milk\n1 tbsp neutral tasting veget
 able oil\nButter or oil for frying\nLemon juice or wedges\, sugar\, or you
 r favourite topping\nMethod\nPut the flour\, eggs\, milk\, oil and a pinch
  of salt into a bowl or liquidiser and whisk until smooth.\nIf you have th
 e patience\, set aside and rest the ingredients for half an hour. If you d
 on’t\, heat a frying pan with a little oil or butter until hot. \nAdd en
 ough batter to cover the pan and turn down the heat slightly. Cook until b
 eginning to brown\, flip\, and cook the other side. \nServe with lemon\, s
