Our Rector John Riley and his ordained wife Lesley took their last service at St Olaf's on Sunday 13th September. It was good that it was the first time our new communion service - specially written for St Olaf's - had been used and we were so pleased that they could launch it for us. Every seat in our reduced capacity socially distanced church was occupied, divine inspiration must be responsible for precisely the right sized congregation turning up!
The hallmark of John's tenure has been the love and care of his pastoral ministry and he will be long remembered for it. We are also so grateful for the ministry of Lesley, whose entirely voluntary service has been invaluable in running the much enlarged Seatallan Benefice over the years.
John and Lesley retire at the end of September, their last service is at St Mary's, Gosforth, at 10am on Sunday 27th September. Our new Rector, Philip Dorling and his wife move into the Rectory at the beginning of October and will be licensed on Sunday 4th October. This will be held at St Cuthbert's in Seascale. We look forward to welcoming Philip and Jacquie and family to St Olaf's - Philip's first service with us is the 11.30am Communion on Sunday 25th October.
