DESCRIPTION:Tenebrae\, meaning ‘The Darkness’\, originated in the Midd
 le Ages. \n\nThis service is characterised by a passage of light to darkne
 ss through the extinguishing of candles. Through its Scripture and song\, 
 Tenebrae offers a prolonged meditation and commemoration of Christ’s suf
 fering: a darker prelude to the light of Easter. Our service is based arou
 nd readings from Lamentations and the Seven Last Words of Jesus from the C
 ross. The final candle is left burning alone in the darkness – symbolic 
 of the anticipation of the resurrection of Christ.\n\nThis service is sung
  by the Cathedral choir\, and will include music by Lotti\, Parsley\, Bruc
 kner and Blow.\n\nEntrance for this service is through the Southwest Porch
 .
