 s as the Light of the World.  The Christingle consists of an orange\, a re
 d ribbon\, a lit candle\, and dried fruit or sweets. Each element of a Chr
 istingle has a special meaning: \nThe orange: Represents the world \nThe r
 ed ribbon: Symbolizes the love and blood of Christ \nThe sweets and dried 
 fruit: Represent all of God's creations \nThe candle: Represents Jesus as 
 the light of the world\, bringing hope to those in darkness \nThe four sti
 cks: Can represent the four seasons or the four corners of the world \nThe
  tradition of Christingles began in 1747 when Bishop Johannes de Wattevill
 e gave children a candle wrapped in red ribbon during an Advent service in
  his Moravian Church congregation in Germany. He wanted to give them a sim
 ple sign to remind them of the happiness that can come from Jesus. \nChris
 tingles services are usually used during church services and school assemb
 lies during Advent\, between late November and early February and the proc
 eeds are donated to the Children's Society
