Church of England Diocese of Chester St. Peter, Hale

New year New start!

22 Dec 2020, 9:15 a.m.

Hi! I’m Melissa Wearden and I’m very excited to be taking up this role in early January and to meeting you all. I am married to Richard and we have Bella, who is nine, and loves to dance – anywhere and everywhere – and Michael, 5, who has more energy than all of us put together.

We live in Macclesfield, where we both went to school, but Richard grew up in Woodford and I grew up in Bollington – incidentally, because my parents, who were living in Timperley at the time, found a house that they thought was in Little Bollington but fell in love with it anyway, even though it was further away.

Richard and I have been married since 2009 which is the year that I got my first paid position in a church. Since then, I have worked for churches in Bramhall, Wilmslow, Handforth and Macclesfield. It has been varied, with different settings, but I’m glad we have never left Cheshire because we like it so much (and the Chester Diocese Christmas lunches at Foxhill are very nice!).

Richard works in Quality Assurance – or as ‘a spy’, as Bella says – at Royal London in Wilmslow but is currently working from home due to the pandemic. He likes to play the guitar, eat curry and watch football.

He says: ‘I’m very excited to become part of this church family. I do feel that our experiences so far have been preparing us for this next chapter.’

We love to walk as a family, play games and watch movies. Since lockdown, we have become partial to hiring hot tubs and eating chocolate!

I am a qualified Girl Guide Leader and in normal circumstances would be running a Ranger Unit. I love to read, swim and do jigsaws, but not all at the same time.

The whole family is looking forward to joining you in worship and other activities – the men’s breakfasts do look rather tasty, for example. We hope you all have a great Christmas if we don’t see you before.

Every blessing,

Melissa, Richard, Bella and Michael
