In a short time she has made a big impression. we would say that she would be long remembered, if she were going far enough away that there would be any possibility we might forget her. It’s wonderful that she has moved only as far as Somerford, to the Rectory for Astbury and Smallwood, so we shall continue to bump into her.
Normally such a departure would warrant a full-scale bun fight. We did our best in the circumstances! The morning service on YouTube featured the most wonderful re-writing and performance of "Gilly Gilly Ossenfeffer Katzenellen Bogen By The Sea" by Anne-Marie, tailored to our parishes. If you have not seen it yet, it is still available on YouTube, and well worth five minutes of your time.
The second part of our Sunday service saw a good congregation join us on Zoom for presentation of gifts. Anne-Marie has left us with a team of animal puppets, much like her well-loved puppet-dog Wilf. They will be making regular appearances, notably at our Animal Service later this month. And we were able to present Anne-Marie with gifts which will remind her of each village. Mounted corn-dollies from Siddington, a cross made from oak from Marton Church, a classic Swettenham bird table, Italian table fabrics from Eaton, potted plants from the nurseries of Hulme Walfield and a unicorn onesie (!) from Wacky Worshippers.
Anne-Marie’s Institution as Rector will take place on June 4th at 7.30pm. You can join her for this online service on Zoom, but you need to book a place, which you can do through the Rural Daneside Churches app. Or you can click here.
