Church buildings are able to be unlocked again. Here is what has been decided by St Michael’s Church, Hulme Walfield.
Churches are permitted to open their doors for private prayer. However, it has been decided that, as St Michael’s is the largest church the Rural Daneside Group, it will be the venue for services for people across the church group who are shielding from the coronavirus. This means that it will not be opening for private prayer, for the time being, in order to minimise the risk to particularly vulnerable people.
Other churches in the group will be opening, and if you go to the Rural Daneside Group of Churches by clicking here, you can see what each of the others is offering. There is a long list of precautions we need to take, and visitors will obviously need to take care in what they touch. Access to particular areas and to some pews will be closed off. There will be further updates on the app.
We will continue with our worship online, on both YouTube and Zoom, for the time being. We are expecting services in church to begin again at the end of July, and are preparing for that. Initially, there will be two services per month, strictly for those people who are shielding, on 2nd and 4th Sundays. Please see 'Services and Events' for details that will be updated as guidance changes.
We are able to have funeral services in church again, but with strict guidelines on social distancing. This will be communicated to families and attendance will be by invitation only so that we know that we can have a safe number present. The church will be closed for 72 hours following a funeral.
Weddings and Baptisms
We are still unable to do either of these, but will let people know as soon as we can.
