LENT IN THE STOURDENE BENEFICE

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which this year is 17th February. Beginning that evening at 7:30pm, you are invited to explore the themes of Worship in the Wilderness by joining on zoom, and then every Wednesday throughout Lent. Contact Sharon

on [email protected] for a zoom link.

The resources we will be using suggests that while the strong Lenten theme of wilderness, where we journey with Jesus, is a place of danger, temptation and chaos, it is also a place of solitude, nourishment and revelation from God. It feels really

relevant to the times we are living through!

In Lent and the wilderness experience we can explore spiritual practices such as silence, solitude and simplicity as well as themes of lament, grief, doubt and

complaint.

Lent lunches would normally be a lovely convivial occasion when we meet throughout the Stourdene Benefice and enjoy one another’s homemade soup and company, whilst also giving to Tearfund and Christian Aid. This year, I am inviting you to consider skipping the lunch entirely, or to fast in whichever way is appropriate to you.

On Thursdays, as well as the phone in prayer room, throughout Lent I invite you to join me for prayers of intercession from 12.15pm-1.30pm, again on zoom. Email me for a link. There is plenty to be praying about, and please consider still giving online to the charities we normally support above. Fasting from food, or from whatever luxury or comfort underlines for you our utter dependence on God, is a spiritual

practice for times of lament and crying out to God, such as now.
