DESCRIPTION:You are very welcome to join us for our Lammas service. Lammas
Day (1st August) celebrated the first harvest of the year as the new loav
es were brought into church to be blessed. Originally an Anglo Saxon festi
val\, popular across Europe\, it marked the beginning of a new season of h
arvests. The word Lammas is derived from Loaf Mass as the old Anglo Saxon
festival was Christianised. The first grain harvested was milled and baked
into bread and brought into Church to be blessed. It corresponds with the
Hebrew Festival of Weeks when a sheaf from the barley harvest was offered
\, Leviticus 23:9\; Deuteronomy 16:10-16. So come and find out more abou
t this ancient festival.\n\n\nAfter the service\, a range of hot drinks an
d home made cakes and biscuits are available. Toilet facilities if require
d can be found at the adjacent Village Hall.
