DESCRIPTION:Stations of the Cross\n𝑴𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒚 30th March\, 2
pm\, in church for about 45 minutes. Journey with Jesus from his trial at
Pilate’s house to the Cross at Calvary. \nThe Stations of the Cross have
formed part of Christian devotion during Lent and Passiontide for many ce
nturies because they enable us to engage actively with the path of sufferi
ng walked by Jesus\, the 'via dolorosa'\, the way of sorrows. \nThey origi
nated when early Christians visited Jerusalem and wanted to follow literal
ly in the footsteps of Jesus\, tracing the path from Pilate’s house to C
alvary. In the late fourteenth century\, the Franciscan protectors of the
holy places in Jerusalem put up images at which people would pause\, refle
ct and pray. \nEventually\, those pilgrims brought the practice of walking
a path of images from Christ’s passion back to their home countries\, a
nd many churches have images of the 15 traditional Stations of the Cross o
n their walls. The pictures in this video are from the set at St John the
Evangelist\, the parish church of Newbold with Dunston\, Chesterfield. The
se were a gift from St Hughes Catholic Church and we display them during L
 ent and Holy week. https://youtu.be/y6EaBJKWil4
