DESCRIPTION:Palm Sunday (29 March 2026) marks the begining of the last wee
k of the life of Jesus (Holy Week). During this week we share in Christ’
s own journey\, from the triumphal entry into Jerusalem on a donkey on Pal
m Sunday to the empty tomb on Easter Day.\nOur service on Palm Sunday begi
ns in the Eagle Club next door but one to church at 10am for those able to
walk\, or in church at 10am if you prefer.\nWe remember that crowds of pe
ople came out of the city to greet Jesus\, throwing down palm branches on
the road. We give out small crosses made from palm leaves\, and we process
with palms to the church.\nHere we have a dramatic reading of the Passion
Narrative\, in which the whole story of the week is anticipated. Everyone
is welcome\, whether you've ever been to church or not.\nFor all its hope
and expectation\, the Palm Sunday story doesn’t deliver in the way the
crowds wanted. As one commentator put it ‘it’s a story about what happ
ens when the God we want and think we know doesn’t show up\, and another
God — a less efficient\, less aggressive\, far less muscular God — sh
ows up instead\, and saves us in ways we didn’t know were possible.’ D
o we dare trust this God?
