St. Mary's has been working closely with the Town Council to arrange the town's remembrance Sunday ceremonies and make them a fitting tribute to those who have died in conflict.
Under current circumstances we cannot encourage hundreds of people to gather either at church, along the roadside or at the War Memorial in the grounds of the Bowes museum and so:
We will film a ceremony in church attended by members of the uniformed organisations and representative members of the Town Council who will lay wreaths at a specially constructed and decorated memorial for the purpose. We will be supported by a quartet from Barnard Castle band and the church's Director of Music. The ceremony will be available to view via the church Facebook page on Sunday morning (November 8th) and through the Town Council and Teesdale Mercury websites/Facebook pages.
Special prayers are being distributed to residents of our care homes an copies can be obtained in church for those unable to access digital media.
A poster reading 'Barnard Castle Remembers' will be sent out digitally to all contacts usually involved with Remembrance events for onward distribution. Residents are asked to print this off and to place it near their front doors after the 2 minutes silence at 11.00am on Remembrance Sunday.
Community wreaths will be moved from the church to the War memorial later on November 8th. Individuals are welcome to place their poppy crosses at the war memorial at any time between November 8th and Armistice Day
