The Blue Christmas Service acknowledges the heaviness often carried during the holiday season. It will be held this year on December 10th at 2pm at St. Andrew's, Chilton Moor, and at 4pm at Christ Church, Great Lumley.

Last year the residents of Springfield Lodge Care home and the children of West Rainton Primary School got together to tell the Nativity Story in church. The result was moving, funny and will never be forgotten by those who were there! It just had to return- and it does! On Thursday 14th December a brand new production will be taking place in church at 3.30pm. Refreshments are served afterwards. You may also be interested to learn that the BBC will have already filmed the production (NOT this performance) for a Songs of Praise Christmas special.

This beautiful, thoughtful and traditional service is a cherished Christian worship tradition observed near to Christmas Eve. The service weaves together nine short Bible readings—spanning from Genesis to the Gospels—that narrate the story of humanity’s fall, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus. These readings are interspersed with the joyful melodies of Christmas carols, hymns, and choir anthems. Its origins trace back to Truro Cathedral in Cornwall, where the first formal service was conducted in 1880 by Bishop Edward White Benson. This beautiful tradition invites worshippers into the heart of the Christmas narrative, celebrating the hope and light that Christ brings to the world. This service takes place at our Sister Church, St. Cuthbert's in East Rainton.

You really are encouraged to arrive early for this very popular service which is normally packed with residents and parents of the schoolchildren who regard this as the 'proper' start to Christmas! Traditional carols and readings with mince pies afterwards! We will upload the service booklet here in advance if you would like to get into the mood early!

This is a lovely service which always feels a little bit 'special'. Held at 7pm on Christmas Eve, we celebrate and look forward to Christmas Day.

Always held at 10am on Christmas Day to give thanks and celebrate the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. This service includes Eucharist (Communion.)

Held on the 4th Sunday of each month (except December and Feast days) Café Church features coffee/ tea and cake in abundant quantities! Ideal for families it usually has a theme, not too challenging, laughter, a decent song and the Lord's Prayer. Lots of local residents come to Café Church every month for the relaxed atmosphere and chat. Our door is wide enough for electric scooters, prams, walkers and well behaved dogs.
