As we go back into another national lockdown, church buildings are again closing for public worship. Over the coming weeks, our arrangements will be as follows:
St Nicholas’ will be open for private prayer on Sunday afternoons, 2.00 p.m. - 4.00 p.m.
You are welcome to drop by during this time, for as short or long as needed, to light a candle, sit and pray.
In addition, Sunderland Minster in the city centre will be open for private prayer Mondays-Fridays 10.00 a.m. - 12.00 noon.
On Sundays, we are encouraging you to join in with the Church of England's weekly national online service at 9.00 a.m.
This can be found at churchofengland.org or on Youtube at youtube.com/user/ArchbishopsCouncil
The service lasts around forty-five minutes. Previous weeks’ services are also available.
Following the service each week, we invite you to join us for refreshments (bring your own) and a catch-up on Zoom at 10.00 a.m.
The Meeting ID is 664 485 330 and the Passcode is 085460.
(Those who are unable to join Zoom by computer can join by telephone using any of the following numbers:
dial 0203 051 2874 or 0203 481 5237 or 0203 481 5240 or 0203 901 7895 and follow the prompts.
You will need the Meeting ID to hand. When asked for your Participant ID, just press the # button.
Please note that you will be charged for this call by your own provider at their usual local call rate.)
Specifically for Remembrance Sunday, we would encourage you, if you are able, to stand at your doorstep to mark the two-minute silence at 11.00 a.m. joining with countless others around the nation.
We recognise that not everyone is comfortable online, or even has such access. If so, we would encourage you to take advantage of the following opportunities:
Telephone: Daily Hope - 0800 804 8044 - a free phone line of hymns, reflections and prayers. Call at any time.
Radio 4: Sunday Worship 8.10 a.m. Radio 4
Radio 4 Longwave and DAB: Daily Service (Monday - Friday) 9.45 a.m.
Radio 3: Choral Evensong, Wednesday 3.30 p.m. (repeated, Sunday 3.00 p.m.)
BBC 1 tv: Songs of Praise, Sunday 1.15 p.m.
The Archbishops have called the Church to use this time as a focused month of prayer for our nation, and we commend their call to you.
Please do keep in touch with one another. And if you find yourself in any particular need, please do not hesitate to contact Revd Andrew Dowsett on 07783 760 012, or the Churchwardens.
We look forward to seeing you again face-to-face, hopefully in December!
Peace be with you.
