Church of England Diocese of Gloucester Shurdington

Services during November Lockdown - a letter from the Vicar

Dear all,

Here we are in another lockdown, and probably feeling a little perturbed by the prospect of more time indoors than we might like.

So, for the time being, we can't hold worship in the church buildings, but they will be open for individual prayer as currently and at other times by appointment with your churchwarden. We will continue with our Sunday morning Facebook live service, that you can watch with or without a Facebook account, and that same service is available on our YouTube page afterwards. We also have zoom morning prayer on Thursday mornings at 9am, and prayer during the day at noon, Monday to Friday on Facebook. You can find lots more information on our pages on A Church Near You, including electronic copies of the 3in1 magazines and the weekly sheets.

Daily Hope - if online worship isn't for you, then do try this free phone service from the Church of England. It is full of talks, hymns, weekly reflections, chair exercises, morning and evening prayer, weekly services and Mothers' Union midday prayers! Call free on 0800 804 8044.

Our Archbishops and Bishops have also made a call for prayer every day at 6pm during this lockdown. Please see https://www.gloucester.anglican.org/2020/a-call-to-prayer-for-the-nation/ for more information.

We will also have the Greenway Posada - with Mary and Joseph travelling the parishes and sharing their photo journal with us on Facebook and WhatsApp! More of that in a later email...

On the next few achurchnearyou pages are some resources that you might like to use during November and December (Advent).

1. Prayer Diary for lockdown 2 - apologies that this is only just available, but it has all been a bit short on notice! This is the document that you can print, or read from your screen, with a different prayer for each day of lockdown 2, until 2nd December.

2. Advent Ring - print and colour in your own Advent ring, and then use this throughout Advent during our Sunday 10am Facebook services.

3. Advent journey for families - a small booklet with ideas for each week in Advent, plus Christmas and Epiphany.

4. Now - and then - A Roots Advent resource for adults. 5 sessions that can be used as group bible study or for individuals, with links to music.

A prayer for this time of Covid-19:

Keep us, good Lord,

under the shadow of your mercy.

Sustain and support the anxious,

be with those who care for the sick,

and lift up all who are brought low;

that we may find comfort

knowing that nothing can separate us from your love

in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Amen.

Blessings,

Susan
