The renowned British Composer - Ralph Vaughan Williams - was born in the Vicarage in Down Ampney on 12th October 1872. His father was vicar of the parish and RVW was baptised at All Saints' Church. The village is proud of its links with this great man.
2022 is the 150th anniversary of his birth and we intend to mark this occasion with a series of concerts and recitals, choral evensongs, lectures and talks and other events. We hope that the choir of Trinity College, Cambridge - where RVW studied music - will be able to come and sing; and other choirs as well.
We have commissioned a new stained-glass window to celebrate the music of RVW and the craftsman - Tom Denny - will be making the window. We hope it will be installed during 2022.
If you are a fan of RVW - watch this space and find out what's happening in 2022. And do look at our diary page - which is being populated with events as they are being arranged.
