This Sunday, we get back to “ordinary time” taking up the regular reading of St Mark. In the Gospel reading today we hear one of the very few passages in Mark not taken up by Matthew or Luke, the parable of the ‘sleeping farmer’. It’s refreshing to reflect on this parable of purposeful inactivity. That might be a description of what many of us have been forced to do over the past 15 months. However, there are times when we need to heed the call to action. That is the thrust of our reflection today – act, otherwise events may overtake us in the not too distant future and we lose that which is dear to us, all because we did not make our voices heard.
