Coronavirus COVID-19 - Re-opening of Churches for private prayer
St Stephen's Whelley and St David's Haigh are open for private prayer and we are working towards opening St John New Springs and St Elizabeth Aspull as soon as possible.
You are invited to come to church where you will be able to sit in the peace of the quiet building as you pray, at the following times:
Sunday between 2 and 4pm and Thursday between 10am and 12noon at St Stephen, Whelley,
Saturday between 10am and 12noon and Tuesday between 2pm and 4pm at St David, Haigh.
A team of stewards will welcome you and guide you through our Covid-safe guidelines.
FACE MASKS MUST BE WORN - PLEASE BRING A FACE MASK.
You will also be asked to give us your contact details, as part of the government’s Track and Trace system. These will be retained for 3 weeks and then destroyed.
WE DO NEED TO REMIND YOU THAT IF YOU ARE IN THE VULNERABLE CATEGORY (OVER 70 OR WITH A HEALTH CONDITION) YOU SHOULD CONSIDER VERY CAREFULLY WHETHER IT IS SAFE FOR YOU TO ATTEND CHURCH. THE VIRUS IS STILL CIRCULATING AND WE CANNOT GUARANTEE YOUR SAFETY, EVEN THOUGH WE ARE TAKING ALL THE PRECAUTIONS THAT WE CAN.
Building preparation: The building has been cleaned and sanitised, and laid out with chairs spaced for social distance, with a one-way system in place, including an entry door and an exit door. We are grateful to the small team of helpers who have worked hard to get the building ready and safe. A full risk assessment has been done, and guidelines developed, so that your visit can be as safe as possible.
Further sessions: St Stephen’s will be open again on Thursday morning, 10am till 12 noon, and then at the same times each week, as volunteer availability allows.
These opening times have been spaced 72+ hours apart, so that deep cleaning is not needed between sessions.
Volunteering: For those who are not in the Vulnerable category, please do let us know if you are able to join our team of volunteers.
Our other buildings: We are also now working on Risk Assessments and cleaning and set up plans for St David’s, which we hope may be ready in a couple of weeks. Following that we will begin work on opening St Elizabeth’s and St John’s.
Because our service leader rota consists of one person – me! – with our other clergy and Readers being in the Vulnerable category, we are not planning to start worship services just yet, but hope to do that later in the summer.
In the meantime our Zoom online worship continues every Sunday at 10am. See our Services page for details or contact us via our "Get in Touch" page
