DESCRIPTION:Advent Carols service is a traditional service of music and re
adings marking the beginning of Advent and the journey towards the miracle
of Christmas.\n\nThe service mirrors the Advent journey to the celebratio
n of the coming of the light of Christ into our world at Christmas. The ch
urch begins in darkness and expectation\, then moves slowly into light\, a
s that hope-filled message of Christmas unfolds in readings and music.\n\n
ADMISSION\nThe service is open to all\, ticketless and free to attend. Doo
rs open at 5pm and the service lasts approximately 1 hour.\n\nMany of our
Advent events are very busy\; please register to reserve a spot for early
admission to the church (30 minutes before the event) to avoid disappointm
ent.\n\nWe will hold back 125 places for later admission (15 minutes befor
e the service starts) via the West Door for those who arrive on the day wi
thout registration.\n\nIf you need assistance with this\, please contact t
he office on 020 7427 0133 or email stb@stbrides.com.\n\nMUSIC\nAdvent is
a time of preparation and our anthems\, hymns and readings help us reflect
on the needs of the world and recognise the true significance of the comi
ng of Christ.\n\nThis year's Advent Carol Service once again blends new an
d familiar musical repertoire.\n\nThe service this year will begin with Ri
chard Marlow's Advent Responsory\, composed for the choir of Trinity Colle
ge\, Cambridge and first heard at St Bride's last year. Its twelve individ
ual vocal lines perfectly match the voice distribution of the singers in o
ur own St Bride's Choir.\n\nThe service culminates with the choir performi
ng from the altar steps and offering a rare opportunity to hear the great
Marian antiphon Virgo prudentissima by the sixteenth century Flemish compo
ser Heinrich Isaac – court composer to Maximilian I\, the Holy Roman Emp
eror.\n\nSUPPORT ST BRIDE'S\nSt Bride's is wholly reliant on and deeply gr
ateful for the generous support of our visitors and congregation without w
hich this service could not happen.\n\nThere will be a retiring collection
at the end of the service to support the work\, ministry and music-making
of St Bride's and help maintain our magnificent Wren church.\n\nDonations
can be made by cash or contactless at church or via JustGiving. A donatio
n can also be made in advance via EventBrite if you choose to register for
early admission to the service.\n\nDo please Gift Aid your donation if yo
u are eligible which generates an extra 25p in every £1 donated.\n\nADDIT
IONAL INFORMATION\nIf you register for early admission please arrive 30 mi
nutes before the service. Your place may need to be released to others que
uing if you arrive later than this.
