 piece\, Dido and Aeneas\, in the early 1680s. He based the story on the ac
 count by the Roman poet Virgil of the doomed love affair between Dido\, th
 e Queen of Carthage\, and Aeneas\, the Trojan Prince voyaging to find a ne
 w home for his Trojan followers after their defeat by the Greeks. Purcell'
 s music is exquisite and the opera has humour as well as tragedy. Members 
 of the choir will take the lead roles\, and Richard Morrison conducts.
