Following Ivan and Nancy's move from Longframlington late last year, it was not long before he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, a crippling illness that quickly makes those affected very dependent on others. After a spell in the Wansbeck, Ivan had just moved into a care home not far from his house. The home provided the care he needed and its location made it easier for Nancy to see him regularly. Sadly, though he died at the weekend of 12/13 June.
Because of Covid we weren't able to make a fuss of him when he moved, but we really need to place on record our affection for him and our heartfelt thanks for all he did, quietly and unobtrusively around the village and in the church. His service as a sidesman at St Mary's was outstanding, always turning up in good time, always happy to do anything to help. He was also good at keeping in touch with men no longer able to get to church, including when they had moved into care. He regularly attended the Men's Breakfast at the Angler's Arms, and his gentle enthusiasm was infectious. We miss him - and give thanks for his life among us
