Ivan Beer was a much loved and valued member of the St Mary's congregation over many years. Not one to make a fuss about anything, or to seek recognition for his contribution, Ivan was always ready to assist with tasks that needed to be done. A West-countryman by birth, when he moved here, he became a well-loved member of the village community and of our congregation. A keen bowler, he spent many hours on the green at Rothbury.
Most of us did not realise his dedication to keeping in touch with, and visiting, those who were no longer able to come to church regularly through ill health, continuing to visit even when they had moved to sheltered accommodation elsewhere. He showed caring for others in a way most men don't manage. He was always meticulous in fulfilling his sidesman duties, and when he and Nancy moved away, Audrey commented that she had lost her most diligent and reliable sidesman.
While he was here, Ivan regularly attended the Men's Breakfast at Weldon Bridge, and another former member of St Mary's and secretary of the Men's Breakfast, David Shipley, was at the funeral, while St Mary's was represented by Veronica Thomson.
We thank God for Ivan's life among us in Longframlington. May he rest in peace
