James Harvey left us back in April, and it may appear that there is no progress, but actually much has been. going on.
James was Priest in Charge of both Felton and our parish, and was also a member of the diocesan youth team,so he was involved in a variety of activities across the diocese, including the annual Staying Alive youth event held each August at Seahouses. The diocese has now made other arrangements to cover the youth role, and in any case are having to spread a smaller number of clergy across the parishes in the diocese. So Felton and Longframlington will in future definitely be linked with additional parishes.
Our Archdeacon, Catherine Sourbut Groves will ultimately advise the Bishop on a new appointment, but first she needs to know what parishes will be linked together, and in this she is working with our Area Dean, Alison Hardy, and the Deanery Synod she leads. They are keen to ensure a good fit between parishes that are linked, and while they must make the final decision, are keen to ensure they understand the wishes of the various parishes. So, when she comes to lead worship at St Mary's for our patronal festival on 15th August, Archdeacon Catherine is keen to meet local residents and church members to hear what they think.
Because the Priest in Charge has responsibility for the whole parish and not just the church, the Archdeacon is keen to hear from all residents, not just church members. Do come along to St Mary's on 15th August, either to the 09:20 service (all welcome!) or immediately afterwards, around 10:30, and take the opportunity to have your say
