As we celebrated one year since the opening of the Stannington Foodbank in January we have been able to reflect on the vital role this has played in our community. God was certainly present in the timely development of the Foodbank, preparing us for what was to come. We are proudly able to say that we have been able to open to serve our community every Monday throughout the pandemic.
The approach to Christmas was busy and the number of people attending the Foodbank was high. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of the people and businesses in our local community, who provided so much food and gifts for us to distribute to those in need.
After Christmas our numbers dwindled slightly for a couple of weeks but recently the numbers of people attending have increased again. We are open from 12-1pm every Monday.
We are now in a position to receive some donations of food again as some of our supplies need to be restocked. The best way to find out what we need is to check the Stannington Foodbank or Christ Church Stannington Facebook pages each week as we publish what we are short of. If you are not able to access these then donations of basic food items are always welcomed. The drop off times at Stanwood Methodist Church are also published each week. It is usually Monday 0930-1200hrs, Weds 1.30-3pm. There is also a drop off point at 18 Ashurst Place Stannington or the Go Local in Stannington. Cash can be donated at Stannington Fruit and Veg shop and we spend this money there to buy fresh fruit and veg to give out.
If you know of anyone in need who is not receiving food parcels at present please either send them in our direction or let me know via the website or through Alison, Tim or the Churchwardens.
