St Edmund's PCC’s Working Party on Saturday, 4th July completed the work required to enable us to re-open.
This we did, with a said service of Mattins on Sunday, 5th July at 11.00 am.
The service was led by Lay Reader Ruth, and the Paschal Candle was lit – a little late this year… Social distancing was observed, hand were sanitised. Masks were available and worn, gloves were too, and the congregation members were asked to leave their details in case Track & Trace becomes necessary. The toilet facilities were only available for the washing of hands.
The sun was shining, too! It was good to be back. Our services will now resume their pattern of the last year or so.
During another Zoom meeting with the Acting Archdeacon on Tuesday, we were advised that we are now allowed to have the organ played during our services, although the congregation is still not allowed to sing! What is allowed, however, is for the leader of the service to sing the versicles, and a cantor to sing the responses. Not what we wanted, but at least a step in the right direction!
This is how we propose to operate at present…
