 e. This service has become a family favourite in the parish and for many i
 t's become a family tradition.\n\nThe History of a Christingle began in 17
 47 with Bishop Johannes de Watteville of the Moravian Church in Germany\, 
 who created a simple candle with a red ribbon to explain the happiness Jes
 us brings to children. The modern Christingle\, featuring an orange\, cand
 le\, and sweets on sticks\, was popularised in the UK by John Pensom in 19
 68 during a fundraising event for The Children's Society. This modern vers
 ion incorporates the original symbolism but uses additional elements to re
 present the world\, God's love\, and the fruits of the earth. All donation
 s given in this service is given to The Children's Society.
