DESCRIPTION:Christingle is suitable for all ages\, and wonderful way for y
 ounger children to begin the excitement of Christmas Day. As dusk falls on
  Christmas Eve\, join us in church to light a candle and hear the Christma
 s story.\n\nChristingles  date back to a children’s service in Marienbor
 n in 1747. Bishop Johannes de Watteville looked for a simple way to explai
 n the happiness that had come to people through Jesus. He decided to give 
 the children a symbol to do this. This was a lighted candle wrapped in a r
 ed ribbon.\n\nAt the end of the service\, whilst the children held their c
 andles\, the bishop said the prayer\, ‘Lord Jesus\, kindle a flame in th
 ese children's hearts that theirs like thine become.’\n\nThis is a very 
 special year for Christingle\, as it marks 50 years since The Children's S
 ociety held the first Christingle service in this country. The collection 
 from this service will go to the Children's Society.
