ian Unity 2024\n18 January to 25 January\n\nThe parable of the Good Samari
tan is one of the best\nknown passages in the Bible\, yet one that never\n
seems to lose its power to challenge indifference to\nsuffering and to ins
pire solidarity. It is a story about\ncrossing boundaries that calls our a
ttention to the\nbonds that unite the whole human family.\nIn choosing thi
s passage of Scripture for the Week of\nPrayer for Christian Unity\, the c
hurches of Burkina\nFaso have invited us to join with them in a process of
\nself-reflection as they consider what it means to love\nour neighbours u
nconditionally in the midst of life in\nthe 2020s with all the present war
 mongering\, civil\nunrest\, disaster and distress everywhere.\n\nA Reflect
ion\nWe are good because we are loved\,\nnot loved because we are good.\nW
e are loved\,\n\nbut God wants us to give some love back\,\ngiving and rec
eiving in a mutual relationship.\n\nLove makes us better.\n\nBeing in a re
lationship with God means being with\nother people\, doing some good.\nLoo
king after creation.\nIt means being fair and not exploiting others.\nIt m
eans giving and not taking.\nIt means being alongside not overpowering oth
ers.\nIt even means welcoming and respecting the stranger\nin our midst si
nce the stranger may be the Christ\n\nunannounced.\nA Prayer for this week
 \nBarrier-breaking God\,\nyou embrace all cultures and lands\,\nbut keep a
special place in your heart\nfor the stranger\,\nthe widow and the orphan
.\nGrant us the gift or your Spirit\nthat we may become as You are\,\nwelc
oming all as brothers and sisters\,\nyour cherished children.\nCitizens to
 gether in Christ’s kingdom of\njustice and peace. Amen.\nA reminder\n\nT
