ed in any way with this year’s\nChristian Aid Week especially those volu
nteers who\ndelivered the iconic little red and white envelopes.\n\nAs I w
rite this the General Election has been\nannounced for 4 July. We can do n
o better than take\nto heart words written by Archbishops Justin and\n\nSt
ephen……..\n\n“The coming General Election is a critical moment in\nt
he life of our nation\, which will shape our future by\nelecting those who
will make decisions affecting\n\ngenerations to come.\n\nIt is a time for
us all – people of all faiths and of none -\nto ask important questions
about what kind of country\n\nwe want to be.\n\nWe are facing epic challe
nges both in our country and\nour world: from questions of war and peace\,
to\npoverty and injustice and very future of the Earth God\n\nhas given u
s.\n\nFaced with such huge questions\, our instinct as\nChristians is to t
urn to God in prayer and so we want\nto put prayer at the very heart of th
is campaign.\nWe are therefore inviting everyone who is willing\, to\ndedi
cate the next few weeks as a time not just to think\nabout the big questio
ns but to pray for our nation and\nour world. And we want to invite everyo
ne to think\nabout how we all can play our part both as voters and\,\n\nmo
re broadly\, as citizens.\n\nWe would add a plea that no matter how big th
 e issues\nat stake over the next few weeks\, this will be a time\nmarked b
y respect for one another\, for good grace and\na commitment to truth and
integrity.\nIt is our prayer that\, even in the heat of the debate\, we\nw
ill treat each other with respect and kindness.\nAnd we give thanks for th
e dedication of all who stand\nfor public office in service of our communi
ties – often\nat great personal cost - and those who support the\n\nproc
ess.”\n\nPrayers for our nation and the world\nEternal God\, Light of th
e nations\,\nin Christ you make all things new:\nguide our nation in the c
oming days through the\ninspiration of your Spirit\,\nthat understanding m
ay put an end to discord\n\nand all bitterness.\n\nGive us grace to rebuil
d bonds of trust that together we\nmay work for the dignity and flourishin
g of all\;\nthrough Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.\nI pray for peace between
countries.\nI pray for people to reach out to other people with the\n\nha
nd of generosity\nAnd not to be unkind but to care\;\nNot to argue but to
open up discussion\;\nTo be a friend and not fight or bully\;\nTo accept o
thers nationalities and not be racist.\nTo look for the good in other peop
le\nand not find fault in others\;\n\nNot to be bewitched by money but to
give to the poor\nNot to use religion as a weapon but to use it as a suppo
rt\n\nand actual faith.\n\nAnd finally\, not to hate but forgive and love.
Amen.\n(Catarina Mesquita-Reynolds\, aged 9 \n St Richards CE First sch
