 grimage around\nour Bowland Churches to enjoy the friendship and\nfellowsh
 ip of taking Communion together.\nIt is a wonderful opportunity to visit o
 ur churches and\nexperience their very different characters and styles.\nR

 d in our thoughts and prayers the tragedy in\nSouthport earlier this week\
 , the deaths of innocent\nlittle girls having fun. We pray for our broken 
 world\n Rescue us. Heal us. Be near to us this day. We pray\nthis in Jes
 us&#39\; name\, …..a man of sorrows. Amen.\n\nNext Tuesday 6 August is\n
 The Feast of the Transfiguration\nwhen Christians commemorate the time whe
 n Jesus\ntook disciples Peter\, James and John up Mount Tabor\nand Moses a
 nd Elijah appeared to them. Jesus was\n‘transfigured\; and his face and 
 clothes became\n\ndazzlingly bright.’\n\nIt affirms Jesus as the fulfilm
 ent of the law and the\nprophets. For a moment the glass\, through which o
 nly\nhalf-truth could be seen\, was removed\, and the\nultimate truth of J
 esus as the long awaited Messiah\n\nwas revealed.\n\n(Mark 9:2–13\; Matt
 hew 17:1–13\; Luke 9:28–36).\nFather in heaven\, whose Son Jesus Chris
 t\nwas wonderfully transfigured\nbefore chosen witnesses upon the holy mou
 ntain\,\nand spoke of the exodus he would accomplish\n\nat Jerusalem:\n\ng
 ive us strength so to hear his voice\nand bear our cross\n\nthat in the wo
 rld to come we may see him as he is\;\nwho is alive and reigns with you\,\
 nin the unity of the Holy Spirit\,\none God\, now and for ever. Amen.\nWe 
 are in Broughton Hackett this morning and in the\nchurch dedicated to St L
 eonard but…….\nWho was St Leonard?\n\nHe was born towards the end of t
 he 5 th century near\nOrleans in France to a nobleman who was a high\nrank
 ing officer in the army of King Clovis 1.\nAt the age of 14 Leonard went t
 o the monastery of\nMicy in Orleans\, entered Holy Orders and became\nknow
 n for his compassion and holiness.\nHe saved the life of the pregnant quee
 n Wisigarde\,\nwife of King Theodebert\, helping her give birth to a\n\nhe
 althy son.\n\nIn his gratitude\, the King gave Leonard the estate of\nPauv
 in which became a flourishing monastery\, its\nname being changed to Nobla
 t.\nLeonard continued healing the sick\, performing\nmiracles and converti
 ng prisoners to Christianity until\n\nhis death in 559AD.\n\nAfter his dea
 th his fame\, news of his life and miracles\nperformed in his name\, sprea
 d. Richard the Lionheart\nmade a pilgrimage to Leonard’s shrine and chur
 ches\,\nmonasteries\, hospitals and hermitages dedicated to\nhim could be 
 found in France\, Italy\, England\, Scotland\n\nand Bavaria.\n\nThe church
  in the French town of Saint Leonard de\nNoblat\, became a centre of pilgr
 image especially for\npregnant women and prisoners of war.
