  be heading up this year’s production.\n\nI am sure we are all aware of 
 the terrible abuse case\nthat has caused Archbishop Justin Welby to resign
  – a\ndreadful indictment of the Church of England and an\nunholy mess. 
 So\, forgive me\, I am including this in\ntoday’s Pews News. It is a let
 ter from Bishop Martin\nGorick\, Bishop of Dudley\, and suffragan bishop i
 n our\n\nDiocese of Worcester.\nBishop Martin writes……….\n\nLike eve
 ryone who has read the Makin Review I was\ndeeply disturbed and saddened b
 y the details it\ncontains\, and its conclusion that the victims and\nsurv
 ivors of John Smyth were failed by the Church in\nmultiple ways over a num
 ber of decades. My heart\ngoes out to them\, and I applaud the courage of 
 all\nthose who contributed to the review\, and for\npursuing justice all t
 hese years.\n\n \n\nArchbishop Justin has decided to take his share of\nr
 esponsibility for the failures identified in the review.\nThis must have b
 een a very hard decision for him to\nmake and I feel it was the right and 
 responsible thing\n\nfor him to do.\n\nDespite his stated failings in this
  case\, Archbishop\nJustin has done much to champion progress in\nsafeguar
 ding over the last ten years\, in the Church\nof England and other areas o
 f our society\, and I am\n\ngrateful for that.\n\nThe rigorous independent
  safeguarding audit from\nINEQE recently been undertaken in our diocese ga
 ve\nus much encouragement as we seek to build a safer\nchurch and society 
 for all. However\, we mustn&#39\;t be\ncomplacent as we continue to rememb
 er that\nsafeguarding is everyone&#39\;s responsibility.\nIf you have been
  affected by the Makin Review and\nwould like confidential\, independent\,
  support\, please\ncontact the Safe Spaces helpline. As well as the Safe\n
 Spaces Helpline\, there is the Diocesan Safeguarding\nTeam to contact safe

  you.\nRelieve the sufferings\nof all who have been wounded\nby the violen
 ce of sexual abuse.\nRenew in your people\nthe firm resolve\n\nto protect 
 the weakest members of society\,\nespecially our children.\nLet us know yo
 ur loving kindness\nand help us to bring the healing and reconciliation\n\
 nof your kingdom\,\n\nwhere you live and reign in union with the Son and\n
