les of the earth:\n\nmercifully grant that we\,\nwho know you now by faith
\,\nmay at last behold your glory face to face\;\nthrough Jesus Christ you
r Son our Lord\,\nwho is alive and reigns with you\,\nin the unity of the

 odsbury\n\n10.30am\n\nChristingle\nService in\nWhite Ladies\nAston\nThis f
irst Sunday in 2025 we welcome Rev Alma\nOrgan to Peopleton to take the Co
mmunion Service.\nAlma has asked me to include a few words from\n\nher…
…\n\nI would like to say a most grateful thank you to the\nWardens and a
ll those who have made Robin\nand me so welcome and have organised\nand ta
ken part in the services.\nWe appreciate everyone’s warmth\, friendlines
s and\nmost of all the giving of their time to make sure\nservices not onl
y happen but are so well organised.\n\nThe New Year Carol\n\nHere we bring
new water from the well so clear\,\nFor to worship God with\, this happy
New Year.\nSing levy dew\, sing levy dew\, the water and the wine\;\nThe s
even bright gold wires and the bugles that do shine.\nSing reign of Fair M
aid\, with gold upon her toe\,\nOpen you the West Door\, and turn the Old
Year go. Chorus.\nSing reign of Fair Maid\, with gold upon her chin\,\nOpe
n you the East Door\, and let the New Year in. Chorus.\nThis is thought to
recall an old Welsh Folk Custom when\naround three or four o&#39\;clock o
 n New Year’s Day morning\,\nboys visited neighbouring houses\, carrying
fresh cold spring\nwater and twigs of box\, holly\, myrtle\, rosemary etc.
Using\nthe twigs they sprinkled the hands and face of anyone they\nmet fo
r a copper or two. In every house\, each room was\nsprinkled with New Year
&#39\;s water and the inmates\, who\nwere often still in bed\, wished a Ha
ppy New Year.\nI have been Bowland’s Administrator for a while now\nand
have got to know a bit about the Benefice\, its\nlovely caring people and
how they tick.\nSo I feel I know how a lot of us will be thinking about\nt
he New Year and having already heard of the death\nand destruction happeni
ng in the name of religion in\n\ndifferent parts of the world.\n\nIt all s
eems hopeless and a huge mountain to climb\nbefore we see the sun again. W
e can’t do much but\nwe can care for those we meet each day. That way li
fe\nis enriched and we can feel glad to be alive!\nWe need to begin with o
urselves and our\nrelationships and our faith so I once more share this\na
ncient Sandskrit philosophy with you.\nLook well to this day\, for it is l
ife\,\nthe very best of life.\nIn its brief course lie all the realities\n
and truths of existence\,\nthe joy of growth\, the splendour of action\,\n
\nthe glory of power.\nFor yesterday is but a memory\nand tomorrow is only
  a vision.\nBut today\, if well-lived\,\n\nmakes every yesterday a memory
of happiness\nand every tomorrow a vision of hope.\nLook well therefore to
this day.\nA Prayer\n\nGod and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ\,\nwhose y
ears never fail\n\nand whose mercies are new each returning day:\nlet the
radiance of your Spirit renew our lives\,\nwarming our hearts and giving l
ight to our minds\;\nthat we may pass the coming year\nin joyful obedience
and firm faith\;\nthrough him who is the beginning and the end\,\nyour So
n\, Christ our Lord\,\nwho is alive and reigns with you\,\nin the unity of
the Holy Spirit\,\none God\, now and for ever. Amen.
