  Ladies\nAston\n\nSunday\n16 February\n3 rd Sunday\nbefore Lent\n\n11.00am
 \n\nBenefice Holy\nCommunion\nIn Peopleton\nThe Benefice Council meeting (
postponed from 28\nJanuary) takes place this Tuesday. If you have\nanythin
g you would like discussed please do let me\nknow – fmwcc01@gmail.com\n\
nLate Breakfast Café Church held on 26 January with\ncoffee and croissant
\, singing\, prayer and discussion\nwas well supported and popular and tho
se attending\n\nwere keen to ‘do it again!’.\n\nIt is in the Bowline a
s happening again this month on\n23 February. There will now be no service
in\nPeopleton that day (but Communion at White Ladies\nAston and Morning
Prayer at Upton Snodsbury).\nPlease do make a note that Café Church will
actually\n\ntake place on\n\n23 March at 11.00am in St Nicholas\, Peopleto
n.\nLook out for posters advertising it nearer the time.\nAt that service
we will hear from Stef Jones about the\n\ncharity he set up in 2021 called
\nOnwards and Upwards.\n\nStef did voluntary work in HMP Brixton and this
led\nhim to realise that he had a passion for prisons and\nspecifically\,
helping keep people out of them.\n\nAppointing our new Bishop of Worcester
\nIf you are interested in the process of appointing the\nnew Bishop of Wo
rcester\, the next steps and who is\ninvolved and what they are doing can
be found on the\n\nDiocesan website.\n\nThe appointment panel will be hard
at work to find\nthe right person for our Diocese at what we all know\nis
a very difficult time for the Church of England.\nThe appointment will pr
obably be announced in July.\n\nWorld Day of Prayer\n\nWhen I first came t
o Pershore in 1973\, the annual\nWomen’s World Day of Prayer\, was a big
  event\,\ndrawing women from the Catholic church\, The Baptist\nChurch\, t
he Abbey and village churches together for a\nservice on the first Friday
in March.\nWomen officiated at the service\, all the readers were\nwomen\,
the prayers and singing were led by women. I\nsuppose you could say it wa
s a bit of a closed shop!\nOver the years\, it has been opened up to every
one –\nWomen was dropped from its title.\nIt is an important occasion wi
th the opportunity to\nconnect with Christians from across the world\, man
y\nof whom are struggling to maintain their faith in very\,\nvery difficul
t circumstances and ways of life.\nThis year the service has been put toge
ther by the\nwomen living on the Cook Islands – only two thirds\nthe siz
e of the Isle of Wight lying between Tonga and\nSamoa. The theme this year
is from Psalm 139 ‘I\npraise you\, for I am fearfully and wonderfully m
ade’.\n\nThe women write:\n\nOur Heavenly Father blessed our islands of
the sea.\nFrom the northern islands across the ocean to the\nsouthern isla
nds\, the golden sun shines through the\nclear blue skies and birds freely
fly. From the bright\,\nwhite sandy shores all the way to the highest\nmo
untain top our islands are abundant with fresh\nproduce and colourful flor
a and fauna. The lagoons\nand oceans are bountiful with sea life\, fish an
d gems\n(like black pearls)\, which link us to the world.\nOn each island
the mighty coconut tree stands tall\, a\nsymbol of strength and goodness.
The coconut tree\nprovides for our health and wellbeing. We have\ndiscover
ed how to use every part\, from the fronds to\nthe very deep roots for foo
d\, drink\, medicine\, shelter\nand much more. The coconut tree is essenti
al to our\nsurvival and is the tree of life for our people.\nWe are gratef
ul for the arrival of Christianity to our\nshores 200 years ago. The gospe
 l of Jesus Christ\nbrought hope\, peace and light. In time\, our cultures\
nhave interwoven with Christianity\, and the blessings\nare evident today.
As guardians and caretakers of\nGod’s marvellous works\, we always trea
 sure these\nwords\, ‘I made you wonderful’.\nThis year’s service tak
es place on 7 March at 2.00pm\nin The Baptist Church\, Broad Street\, Pers
hore.\nPlease make a note in your diary!
