 d. Amen.\nHow should we prepare for the Season of Lent?\nGive something up
that we may indulge in - chocolate\nand wine spring readily to my mind
 – or do we do\nsomething positive – be more aware of opportunities\nfo
r little acts of kindness\; set aside time for prayer\;\nlisten to uplifti
ng music\; meditate or just be\ncompanionable with God – just sit in sil
ence as you\nwould with a close friend……..and wait and listen.\nWe are
all on the journey through the next six weeks\nuntil we reach the joy of
Palm Sunday\, the despair of\nHoly Week and at last the glory and reassura
nce of\nEaster Sunday’s Resurrection. We could resolve to\nmake the seas
on of Lent 2025 really mean something.\nWe can’t do much better than loo
k at The Rule of\nBenedict from a millenium and a half ago. St Benedict\nd
oesn’t talk about ‘giving up things’ but he teaches us\nto add to ou
r lives things which are missing and would\nhelp our inner being to grow a
nd help guide us when\nlife gets difficult and dark. Put at its simplest\,
he\nadvocates spending time reading to nourish\ncontemplation and setting
aside quiet times to be\naware of the Presence of God and to think about
the\nimportant things in life and the beauty around us.\nThe hope at the e
nd of Lent is that we have a sense of\nrefreshment\, armed with renewed in
ner insight and\nouter courage to better trust that every day of our\nlive
s is meant to be a good one.\nOver the next weeks Pews News will include\n
suggestions for setting aside a little time just for God\nand you – devi
sed by Stuart and Joseph Townend\nincorporating a Bible reading and a Lent
en theme.\nRevd Claire hopes you will find these little offerings\nhelpful
. I know she would welcome feedback (both\npositive and negative) as the w
 eeks go by.\nWith Ash Wednesday just a few days away\, I finish\nwith my f
avourite Sandskrit poem. –\nLook well to this day\,\nfor it is life\,\nt
he very best of life.\nIn its brief course lie all\nthe realities and trut
hs of existence\,\nthe joy of growth\nthe splendour of action\nthe glory o
 f power.\nFor yesterday is but a memory\nand tomorrow is only a vision.\nB
 ut today\, if well-lived makes\nevery yesterday a memory of happiness\nand
every tomorrow a vision of hope.\nLook well therefore to this day.
