 big thank you to everyone\, across the\nBowland Benefice\, who helped in a
 nyway with the\nwonderful services of Holy Week and Easter Day in\nour par
 ishes. She was pleased to see so many people\nwelcomed into our churches n
 ot only for the\nCommunion Services on Maundy Thursday and Easter\nDay its
 elf but also for the peaceful Quiet Service on\nHoly Tuesday\, The Station
 s of the Cross on the\nmorning of Good Friday and the contemplative servic
 e\nof Meditation on Good Friday evening.\n\nWe woke to the very unexpected
  news last Monday\nthat Pope Francis had died following his appearance\nin
  St Peter’s Square on Easter Day.\nClaire writes……… Our thoughts a
 nd prayers are with\npeople of all faiths across the world as they mourn t
 he\ndeath of Pope Francis.  We pray for the wise\ndiscernment of those wh
 o decide on his successor.\nAs I write this\, the Pope is being taken to l
 ie in state in\nSt Peter’s Basilica for all the world to honour him.\nI 
 feel sure\, like me\, that a lot of people will have seen\nthe TV footage 
 of him lying in a simple coffin in the\nchapel in the home he loved – Sa
 int Martha’s House\nwith its very simple chapel which\, to the televisio
 n\nviewer I feel\, speaks overwhelmingly of peace\, light\nand hope. The w
 ords on the beautiful white shaped\nceiling above his coffin are the words
  Christians\nalways particularly associate with Pentecost:-\nCome Holy Spi
 rit fill the hearts of your faithful people.\n\nMay Pope Francis rest in p
 eace and rise in glory.\n\nA prayer for us all\nAlmighty Father\,\n\nyou h
 ave given your only Son to die for our sins\nand to rise again for our jus
 tification:\ngrant us so to put away the leaven of malice\n\nand wickednes
 s\nthat we may always serve you\nin pureness of living and truth\;\nthroug
 h the merits of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord\,\nwho is alive and reigns 
 with you\,\nin the unity of the Holy Spirit\,\none God\, now and for ever.
  Amen.\nWith the local elections later this week in mind\, a\nprayer for o
 ur fabulous country and its amazing\ndiverse population\, written by Desmo
 nd Tutu.\nYes we all know that awful things happen and that\nthere is so m
 uch wrong with society in many areas of\nlife but\, despite everything\, t
 here are very many\npositives to be grateful for. We are so very lucky.\nB
 less our beautiful land O Lord\,\nWith its wonderful variety of people\,\n
 of races\, culture and languages.\nMay we be a nation\nof laughter and joy
 \,\nof justice and reconciliation\,\nof peace and unity\,\nof compassion\,
  caring and sharing.\nWe pray this prayer for a true patriotism\,\nin the 
 powerful name of Jesus our Lord. Amen.
