 thank you to all those who\, once again\,\nhave taken on the responsibilit
 ies that come with\nbeing a member of one of our Church PCCs\; to keep\nth
 e message of Christ’s life and teachings alive in our\ncommunities and t
 o care for and maintain our\nbeautiful church buildings – a constant rem
 inder of\n\nGod’s presence among us.\n\nThe annual and very popular Jazz
  Evening will take\nplace next Saturday\, 10 May in the Conservatory at\nC
 owsden Hall\, starting at 7.00pm. Tickets at £12 each\,\nare available fr
 om Helen (01905 381490) and Janet\n\n(01905 381379)\n\nThis coming Thursda
 y - A time for commemoration\nof the 80 th Anniversary of the Victory in E
 urope\nThe day hostilities came to an end across the Channel\n– 8 May 19
 45. A day still remembered by some\namongst us\, a day of rejoicing that t
 he horrors of war\n\non the Continent had ceased.\n\nIn Peopleton there wi
 ll be a free barbeque with soft\ndrinks available in St Nicholas Churchyar
 d from\n5.30pm until 7.30pm. The bells will ring out at 6.30pm\njoining ot
 her churches across our land. Children will\nbe very welcome to join in th
 e ringing.\nIn White Ladies Aston\, the bells of St John the Baptist\nwill
  ring out too at 6.30pm followed by a ‘street party’\n\nin The Parish 
 Room.\n\nOn the following evening\, Friday 9 May\, at 7.30pm in\nThe Paris
 h Room a simple supper (with lots of\nsinging!!) will be on offer at a cos
 t of £5.00. For more\ndetails ring Margaret (01905 345371).\nAlongside th
 e joy of 8 May 1945\, the ‘forgotten war’\nin the East continued unaba
 ted until 15 August…..\nWe remember all those who have given their lives
  and\nstill continue to give their lives for their country.\nLead us from 
 despair to hope\, from fear to trust\; lead\nus from hate to love\, from w
 ar to peace. Let peace fill\nour heart\, our world\, our universe. Amen. 
 \nNext Sunday Christian Aid Week begins (11 – 17 May)\nIt is a time for 
 supporters to raise funds and\nawareness for the work of Christian Aid and
  its local\npartners in communities around the world\, helping\nthem find 
 practical and sustainable ways out of\n\npoverty. \n\nWhether you fill on
 e of the familiar\, little red and\nwhite envelopes\, donate on-line or su
 pport a\nfundraising initiative you will be benefitting Christian\n\nAid i
 n its work……\n\n‘We work with some of the world&#39\;s most vulnerab
 le\ncommunities in 29 countries in Africa\, Asia\, the\nMiddle East\, Euro
 pe and Latin America and the\nCaribbean. When emergencies strike in thes
 e\ncountries\, we are there before\, during and after to\nsave lives and s
 upport people in the long term.’ \nO God of all hope and peace\, we bri
 ng to you the\nneeds of our broken and hurting world. We pray for an\nend 
 to violence and warfare so that the challenging\nwork of rebuilding may be
 gin. Help us\, O Lord\, to\naffirm our common humanity so that in our\ndif
 ferences we may build together for justice and\npeace. Guide world leaders
  with wisdom and\ncompassion\, that they may choose paths of\nreconciliati
 on and understanding. May the seeds of\npeace be sown and nurtured\, leadi
 ng to a world where\nall people can live in harmony and safety. We ask for
 \nyour guidance and grace in all our efforts to promote\npeace and justice
 \, now and forever. Amen.
