 gh to shut out all envy\,\npride and malice.\n\nMake its threshold smooth 
 enough to be no\nstumbling-block to children\,\nnor to straying feet\,\n\n
 but strong enough to turn away the power of evil.\nGod make the door of th

 ou from Helen from Upton Snodsbury……\nA very big thank you to all who 
 attended the\nwonderful evening of Jazz at Cowsden Hall on 10 May.\nIt wa
 s a brilliant evening and we raised £720.\nMany thanks to those who helpe
 d in any way\, and\nespecially to Martin and his band for the superb\nmusi
 c\, and David for the loan of his Conservatory.\nSt Kenelm’s looked mag
 nificent for the Flower Festival\nover the weekend of 31 May and 1 June. T
 here were\nexciting displays of flowers everywhere\, with the\ntheme of f
 rom my garden. Crafts were on sale and\ndelicious homemade cake and teas w
 ere available.\nAltogether we raised £774 - an amazing amount.\nThank you
  to everyone who helped in any way.\nThese two amounts will be going towar
 ds all the\nrepairs we have to do on our ancient but well-loved\nbuilding 
 – there are the floor repairs\, tarmacing of our\nshare of the path\, s
 tained glass window repairs\, roof\nleaks\, mullion repairs and so on and 
 so forth - it seems\nnever ending\, which is why we have so many\nfundrais
 ing events – fundraising but we hope fun too.\nOur next one is the annu
 al Fete on July 12 th .\nAnd this Sunday is Fathers’ Day!\nToday is reco
 gnised across a lot of the world as\nFathers’ Day - from the USA to Paki
 stan\; from Mexico\nto South Africa\; from Greece to Canada.\nA survey a f
 ew years ago showed that in Britain the\naverage dad spends 4 hours a week
  as his children’s\ntaxi-driver\, 27 days a year doing home DIY and if y
 ou\nput a price on all the times he ‘rehouses’ spiders and\nother cree
 py-crawlies\, he would be a wealthy man!\nSome may regard Fathers’ Day a
 s just an opportunity\nfor the card manufacturers to make a bit of money\n
 but it can be an opportunity to think about what being\na dad means\, to e
 xpress love and gratitude\, to talk\ntogether\, laugh together and maybe s
 how\nunderstanding and forgiveness too. Begin to heal\n\nbroken relationsh
 ips.\n\nWe think of Fathers striving to provide for their\nfamilies agains
 t all the odds – in our world’s utterly\nintolerable war zones\, in ar
 eas of huge depravation\,\nflooding\, drought and hunger – those husband
 s and\nfathers who have nothing and whose despair is\n\nbeyond measure.\nG
 od\, bless all the fathers in the world.\nGuide them to be good role model
 s\nand loving to their children.\nHelp them to be a father like You are.\n
 Give them grace and patience\nto handle situations in a loving way. Amen.\
 nA thank you for all those men and women who have\nguided us and supported
  us in our lives\, in both the\nbig things and the small. For those who ha
 ve shaped\nour thoughts\, our outlooks and our attitudes.
