\nThe Benefice Lent Course begins on Tuesday 21\nFebruary. Claire explains
: called Dust and Glory\, it will\nexplore how we can live well with the m
ess of\neveryday life. It encourages us to take a fresh look at\nthe frust
rations and failings that every day brings and\,\nrather than pretending w
e can always avoid them\,\nseek to learn from them and grow closer to God\
nthrough them. It will be relaxed and a good chance to\n\nrelate scripture
to real life.\n\n Please let Revd Claire know if you would like to take\
npart on 07921101320 or revdclaireb@btinternet.com\n\nFor the romantic amo
ngst us……\nNext Tuesday is St Valentine’s Day: but who was he?\nVale
ntine’s name comes from the Latin valens\nmeaning worthy\, strong and po
werful. He is the\npatron saint of lovers epileptics and beekeepers.\nBy s
ome accounts\, St. Valentine was a Roman priest\nand physician who suffere
d martyrdom on 14\nFebruary during the persecution of Christians by the\ne
mperor Claudius II in about 270. He was buried on\nthe Via Flaminia\, and
Pope Julius I reportedly built a\n\nbasilica over his grave.\n\nAccording
to legend \, St. Valentine signed a letter from\nyour Valentine to his jai
 ler’s daughter\, whom he had\nbefriended and healed from blindness.\nAno
ther common legend states that he defied the\nemperor’s orders and secre
tly married couples to\nspare husbands from having to go to war.\nSt Valen
tine prayers and thoughts for the week\n\nEternal God\,\n\nwe offer our th
anks that through our earthly lives you\n\nspeak of your eternal life.\nWe
rejoice in the wonder of creation\,\nthe gift of human life and the many
blessings\nthat our relationships bring.\nRenew in us the fruits of your H
oly Spirit\;\nthat love\, joy and peace may abound in our homes\,\nthrough
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.\nGod\, source of life and love\,\nwe ask you
to bless our families and friends.\nHelp us to see that the love we exper
ience from\nothers is only a reflection of your great love for us.\nWe ask
this through Christ our Lord. Amen.\nWe pray for those whose relationship
s have ended\neither by the death of a partner or by a break up. May\nthey
find peace and happiness once more.\nWe think of all children\, especiall
y those in the care of\nlocal authorities\, in foster homes and adoptive h
omes.\nMay they all know the love &amp\; security of ‘belonging’.\nWe
remember couples and families devastated by the\nearthquakes in Turkey and
Syria. Their suffering is\nalmost beyond imagining. How can we help?\nIn
this cold weather we remember those living on our\nstreets. Donations of w
arm clothing\, socks\,\nunderwear\, toiletries and single bedding would be
\ngreatly appreciated by the St Paul’s Hostel for the\nHomeless in Worce
ster. There is a collection box in\n\nPeopleton Church.\n\nFood is always
required too. There are food collection\nboxes in The Pantry in Peopleton
(given to Pershore\nFood Bank) and Peopleton Church (given to\nWorcester F
 ood Bank).
