DESCRIPTION:Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent - the 40 day period 
 that leads us up to Holy Week and Easter.  The whole season of Lent has ar
 e more sober\, pensive and penitential feel to it.  Ash Wednesday in parti
 cular is an occasion to call to mind our slips and failings\, and to be re
 minded of God's goodness and mercy.\nAt St Mary's there is a service at 7 
 pm - a eucharist (the service where we receive the blest bread and wine). 
  As p\;art of this service worshippers can have the sign of the cross mark
 ed on their foreheads wish ash - hence the name of the day.  It is a sign 
 of that we rely on God to forgive and to cleanse us.  \nAll are welcome to
  share in this service.
