DESCRIPTION:The Parish of Amblecote and the Team Parish of Wordsley have m
ore in common than the fact that each has a church dedicated to the Holy T
rinity. They are located at opposite ends of the so-called Crystal Mile w
hich celebrates the key sites and events that shaped the area’s glassmak
ing industry\, and generations of glass makers have found their final rest
ing place in the two churchyards.\n\nOur shared parish border runs up Bret
tell Lane. The parish of Wordsley (which includes the congregation of St
Mary & St Francis with St Clare\, Lawnswood) was part of the old Kingswin
ford Deanery\, whilst Amblecote belonged to Stourbridge Deanery. Then in
2021 some reorganisation of the administrative districts of the Diocese o
f Worcester led to the merger of the old Dudley\, Kingswinford and Stourbr
idge Deaneries \, and the two parishes came together within the new atedGr
eater Dudley Deanery. This has opened up exciting opportunities for colla
borative working.\n\nAt this service\, Rev. Lyn Rowson (Acting Rector of W
ordsley) and Rev. Alan Williams (Vicar of Amblecote) will each be licensed
as Assistant Priest in the other's parish\, which will enable more sharin
g of ministry and closer cooperation with fewer administrative restriction
s.\n\nEveryone is invited to attend. Please stay behind after the service
for refreshments and a chance to meet and talk with people from all three
churches!\n\n(And if you're still wondering why our two neighbouring pari
shes should have churches with the same dedication\, it's due to another h
istorical boundary change! At the time they were consecrated\, Wordsley a
nd Amblecote churches were in different dioceses and therefore came under
 separate jurisdictions. Kingswinford\, Wordsley\, Himley and Sedgley\, a
long with Christ Church\, Coseley\, all used to belong to Lichfield Dioces
e but were transferred to Worcester as part of a realignment of diocesan b
oundaries in the Black Country area in 1994. Up until that date\, Brette
ll Lane was not just the parish boundary but also the diocesan boundary.)
