Last week the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, launched Daily Hope, a free phone line offering hymns, prayers and reflections 24 hours a day in to people’s homes during the lockdown. The line received more than 6,000 calls in first 48 hours of its launch.
Archbishop Justin said, “I want to urge people to spread the news about this service. I’m going to phone a friend; will you join me?”
The free phone number is: 0800 804 8044
It open with a greeting from the Archbishop Justin Welby, there then follows a number of options
*To listen to a full message from the Archbishop of Canterbury

6 Morning and Evening Prayers
7 Covid19 Advice
I have become a regular listener to the ‘Hymns We Love’ option. A different hymn is played each day and you can sing along! Then a short talk follows on the hymn including who wrote it, its origins, and popularity and the scripture references contained in it. There is then an opportunity to sing along again followed by two short prayers. This all runs for about 20 minutes but remember it is a free phone call!
Through this new resource I have learnt fascinating facts about and had insights into hymns such as ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘Rock of Ages’ and taken comfort from the two short prayers. So I thoroughly recommend this phone line to anyone but especially to those who don’t have access to internet, social media and or who are simply missing church services. It’s great being able to access these free resources anytime of the day or night.
