Each session has a faith-based theme with games and lots of interaction from the children.
For our April session, we focused on the Easter story. Parents hid 'treasure' items for the children to find and bring back to the group. Each household had an item which symbolised a stage of the Easter story, to enable us to imagine what happened and what it meant. For example: a palm leaf, a goblet of wine, a sandaled foot! We talked about each item in turn until we reached the end of the story. We then took some time together to write a message to Jesus - a note or three words - and of course, every child had a chocolate egg to celebrate Jesus' resurrection!
Packs were provided before the session with everything for the treasure hunt plus activities to do over the Easter holidays, including a stained-glass effect cross to colour and put in the window; hot cross bun recipe; Easter activity sheet. And we ended the session with a prayer with actions, which we all learnt and did together.
Next month we will be looking at Pentecost and the gifts we are given by our generous God.
