DESCRIPTION:There will be no service at St Stephen's as we will be joining
  Robin Hood's Bay Methodists at 10.30 am for their Covenant Service. \nThi
 s service has been rearranged from the 4th January.\n\nThe Covenant Servic
 e\, often celebrated on the first Sunday of the year\, is at the heart of 
 Methodists’ devotion and discipleship\, and their dedication in working 
 for social justice. In the service the Church joyfully celebrates God’s 
 gracious offer to Israel that “I will be their God and they shall be my 
 people”.\nAll are welcome to share in a Covenant Service.  You will be w
 elcome\, whether you are sharing in a Covenant Service for the first time\
 , have done it annually for many years\, or simply want to watch what othe
 rs do without taking part yourself.  The service is a gift not a demand! A
 nd God will give you the grace to do it all. You are not alone!\nThis idea
  of Covenant was basic to John Wesley’s understanding of Christian disci
 pleship. He saw the relationship with God in Covenant as being like a marr
 iage between human beings (both as a community and as individuals) on the 
 one side and God in Christ on the other (cf. Ephesians 5.21-33).
