Inviting someone to a meal is a way of expressing welcome common to every time and place. Jesus told the parable of a king who throws a wedding banquet for his son, and uses it as a warning to those who would refuse the invitation to honour God's Son. Jesus ate meals with many people, and at each communion service we remember his last meal with his disciples. We too are welcomed as honoured guests - and need to accept the invitation wholeheartedly. Matthew 22:1-14.
