DESCRIPTION:Polstead Church 21st July 4pm \nWe will be celebrating St Cedd
 ’s Celtic roots with the \nsupport of Cantus Firmus Choir.\nThis will be
  a relaxed service suitable for all the family and \nafternoon tea will be
  served following the service.\nThis year we will gather at the church and
  then make the short walk to the Gospel Oak for prayers and then \nReturn 
 to sit in  the church.\nThe history of the Gospel Oak - St Cedd and his mo
 nks \nbrought Christianity to East Anglia and according to \ntradition St 
 Cedd preached under the original tree in the \ngrounds of what is now Pols
 tead Hall in 653. \nWhen the original tree collapsed in 1953\, a cut throu
 gh \nthe trunk revealed over 1\,400 growth rings indicating that \nthe tre
 e would have been a mature tree in the time of St \nCedd. Since 1902 there
  has been an annual service\, \nstarted by Rev Francis Eld Rector of Polst
 ead.\nAfter the loss of the original oak\, a replacement was sown \nfrom t
 he acorn of the original\, and this provides the focal \npoint of the serv
 ice
