Church of England Diocese of St.Edmundsbury & Ipswich Mendlesham

Remembrance Sunday Livestreamed

9 Nov 2020, 12:30 p.m.

Every week since the end of March, the parish Mass has been recorded and uploaded to YouTube. There is usually no internet signal in the church. However, after a lot of hard work ensuring we could get an internet signal, for the first time, on Remembrance Sunday, 8th November, we were able to livestream to our new Facebook page.

Remembrance Sunday is always special in our parish. 35 men gave their lives in WW1, WW2 and the Korean Wars, but also 288 US Servicemen stationed at the nearby Mendlesham Airfield in WW2 gave their lives. Candles are always lit for each one of these and wreaths laid both at the parish memorial in church and the US memorial in the churchyard. Usually representatives from the Parish and Community councils, Wetheringsett parish (in which the airfield was situated) and RAF Lakenheath attends to lay a wreath at one or the other memorials. this year, even though no congregation could be present, the candles were still lit and the wreaths laid.

Last year 150 people were present, so the parish clerk kindly sent a link to the livestream via the village e-news. It is encouraging to see that there have, to date, been over 900 views. You can see it here
