 day) and our focus this week is on John the Baptist who heralded the comin
 g of the Messiah.\n\nOur readings and liturgy direct us towards Christ's b
 irth and we endeavour to do so with a sense of alert watchfulness\, and ou
 r fundamental Advent prayer remains 'Maranatha' - 'Our Lord\, come' (1 Cor
 . 16:22).\n\nOur readings this week come from Isaiah 35:1-10\; James 5:7-1
 0\; and Matthew 11:2-11.\n\nOur hymns are\, 'Long ago\, prophets knew'\, a
 nd 'On Jordan's bank the Baptist's cry'.\n\nYou may wish to have an advent
