Church Lay Workers Licensed

27 Jun 2020, 3:45 p.m.

It is usual for those who have trained and been newly chosen to serve as priests in the Church Of England to be 'ordained' as priests or deacons at Petertide - the end of June - although other times of the year are also used.  Because of the COVID regulations  it has proved impossible to hold a service at the cathedral. So, as an interim measure, Bishop Martin has commissioned those who were to be admitted as deacons (i.e. in the first year of their priesthood) as Lay Workers, so that they can begin at least some of their work in the places where they are due to serve.  A full ordination service is being planned for later in the year.
