 Day of Prayer (WDP) is a massive\, women-led movement that has been connec
 ting people across the globe for over 150 years. It’s one of the oldest 
 and largest grassroots networks in the world\, focused on informed prayer 
 and prayerful action.\n\nThe History in a Nutshell: Led by Women: It began
  in the 19th century when women in North America who were often excluded f
 rom leadership roles formed their own boards to tackle social issues and s
 upport women and children worldwide. \n\nGlobal\, Not Local: Following WWI
 \, the movement grew into a global mission for peace. Since 1927\, it has 
 evolved into a "circle of prayer" that spans over 170 countries.\n\nA Part
 nership of Equals: The core philosophy shifted in 1928 from "helping from 
 afar" to praying with\, not for our sisters of other races and nations.\n\
 nHow it Works Today: Every year\, on the first Friday of March\, a differe
 nt country takes the lead. A committee of women from that nation writes th
 e program\, sharing their culture\, their struggles\, and their hopes.\n\n
 When you join a WDP event\, you aren't just attending a service\; you are 
 joining a 24-hour wave of connection that follows the sun around the globe
  listening to the voices of women from another part of the world and stand
 ing with them in solidarity.
