Work on St John’s roof has been delayed until early November, to allow unimpeded wedding photography, at a much-anticipated event, taking place at the end of October. Once begun, the work will involve scaffolding to one elevation. Over a forecasted two week period, the porch tiles will be overhauled, the ridge tiles to the apex of the main roof over the nave will be given new mortar, moss removal undertaken to the whole roof, and gutter clearance enacted.
We have been fortunate to receive two grants so far – from the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust (who are the organisation behind ‘Ride & Stride’), and the Allchurches Trust. These funds will help to defray substantial costs. Further grants have been applied for and are currently being assessed by the relevant bodies.
The PCC is always grateful for additional donations to this and any other works for the maintenance of this 170-year-old church – called a ‘Victorian gem’ by devotees of Victorian architecture. Contact the PCC Treasurer – [email protected]. TO DONATE, click on the following link -
